West Vancouver
West Vancouver's
spectacular coastline and mountain backdrop provide the perfect
setting for this quintessential west coast city. Cross the landmark
Lions Gate Bridge - originally constructed in the 1930s by Britain's
Guinness family to access their vast property development know
as the British Properties - and in 15 minutes from downtown Vancouver,
you're there!
Rewarding yourself with a relaxing afternoon poking around the
village like communities that make up West Vancouver. If you're
on the lookout for antiques and crafts, Ambleside is worth a try
while Dundarave is known for its boutiques and galleries. Further,
why not relax with a walk along Ambleside Beach or stroll the
length of the seawall which connects both neighbourhoods.
Horseshoe Bay
is the western most community in West Vancouver. It is the departure
point for ferries to Bowen Island, Vancouver Island and the Sunshine
Coast. It's a great place to book a fishing charter, find fish
and chips and walk along the wharves of local marinas. The many
restaurants offer ocean views, perfect for watching the coming
and goings of the ferry boats.
Along the impossibly picturesque Marine Drive, on the way to Horseshoe
Bay, you'll find Lighthouse Park and its 75 hectares (185 acres)
of majestic forest including towering Douglas Fir. The park's
extensive network of trails can take you out to the 1874 lighthouse
- Canada's oldest manned lighthouse - and along the rugged coastline
where seals can be found basking on the rocks below. An equally
impressive road will take you up to Cypress Mountain where there's
great skiing in winter and a host of summer time activities.
